Kaco Solar USA confirms distribution with AEE Solar
Kaco Solar is excited to announce they have now solidified a distribution agreement with AEE Solar to help maximize the availability of the Kaco brand blueplanet inverter.
The company will maintain a direct relationship with installers whenever possible. However, this fresh distribution relationship ensures the added availability of the blueplanet product. Through strategic pricing this agreement has made the blueplanet inverter more affordable to the smaller installer who will simply need a few inverters a month. This installer can not justify the cumbersome and usually expensive sales contract necessary to receive the competitive pricing of direct to installer sales agreements found, when trying to work directly with Kaco’s competition.
Saint-Gobain invests 20 million euros in the production of cylindrical-parabolic thermo solar mirrors
Saint-Gobain announces a substantial investment, through La Veneciana de Saint-Gobain, of over 20 million euros allocated to its plant at Covilis, (Lisbon), for the purpose of intensifying the production of cylindrical-parabolic mirrors for the thermo solar market in Spain and Portugal.
The new cylindrical-parabolic mirror works will be located at Covilis (Lisbon). The investment project will be implemented alongside the existing plant without halting current production for the panel market. The plant will undergo an enlargement of some 12,000 square metres, until achieving a total industrial floor space of 19,000 square metres. The Covilis works will become the largest cylindrical-parabolic mirror plant in the world, with a production capacity of more than five solar fields and will have a work force of some 110 people. The new facility will supply the energy market with a high performance hardened product. According to forecasts the first orders, already placed at this time, are expected to be served in the first quarter of 2009.
The location of this major investment at the Covilis works permits the utilisation of the know-how, experience and prestige of a plant that is already an expert and pioneer in this type of product for the solar market. Furthermore, the fact of being located close to the Portuguese capital means that a port open to the Atlantic is available at just a short distance, which facilitates customer service tremendously both in developments in the Mediterranean basin and on the American continent.
The project has been classed as being of “national interest” by the AICEP (Investment and Foreign Trade Agency of Portugal), attached to the Portuguese Government Ministry of the Economy and Innovation
Acciona extends its footprint in Canada by winning a 30 MW wind park contract
Acciona Energy has been selected by the Canadian electricity company Nova Scotia Power (NSPI) to build a 30 megawatt (MW) wind park at Amherst, on the country's east coast. The park will consist of twenty 1.5 MW Acciona Windpower turbines, and the facility will join two others that have been awarded to Acciona in Canada.
Amherst is expected to be completed by the end of 2009, doubling the 136 MW currently operational, to reach a total of 280 MW (202 MW attributable).
Both companies are finalising the signature of a long-term (25-year) energy sales contract through which Acciona will supply NSPI with electricity generated by the wind park. This capacity is equivalent to the consumption of some ten thousand homes. Acciona will have 100% ownership of the installation and will be responsible for its construction, operation and maintenance.
The Amherst wind park will be located in the county of Cumberland, in Nova Scotia on the Atlantic coast of the country. The wind turbines will be placed along the length of the Trans-Canada highway and will therefore be a visible example of renewable energy for users of that route
Solel's receivers to power 150 MW of clean energy
Solel Solar Systems announced a contract to supply 70,000 UVAC 2008 receivers for three new power stations to be built in Spain.
Under the contract, Solel will supply the UVAC 2008 solar receivers to a Spanish consortium which is developing three 50 MW solar power plants. The names of the members of the consortium were not released. Delivery of the receivers under the new contract will commence in 2009. This is the largest order to date for the UVAC 2008, launched by Solel in October 2007.
The UVAC 2008 receiver offers solar power plant developers the latest technology for solar powered electricity generation. At the heart of the solar thermal power plant, it captures sunlight and converts it to heat for clean power generation with 20% less heat loss than other receivers in the market, according to testing by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy in January 2008. Heat loss measurement is a critical indicator of receiver efficiency. In addition, Solel's patented hydrogen absorption system ensures that the UVAC will maintain its high thermal yields for many years.
Schneider Electric acquires Marisio, a leading Installation Systems and Control player in Chile
Schneider Electric has signed an agreement to acquire Marisio, a Chilean company that manufactures and sells Installation Systems & Control (ISC) components. Marisio generated 2007 revenues of 11 million euros and has 230 employees.
The acquisition is another step in Schneider Electric’s strategy to further boost its presence in the fast-growing emerging countries, which accounted for 32% of its sales in 2007.
Marisio is the number 2 player in wiring devices for the Chilean residential market, with presence also in several countries of South America. Since it was founded in 1947, Marisio has gained a strong reputation for its products quality.
Marisio’s product range, markets and distributors are very complementary to Schneider Electric’s. Marisio will add to the Group’s existing low voltage offering a full and innovative range of wiring devices and residential systems. It will also give Schneider Electric a leading position in the residential markets as well as the opportunity to reinforce its presence in the buildings market by proposing more complete solutions.

Foster Wheeler to design and supply two waste heat recovery units for PTT's gas plant in Thailand
Foster Wheeler announced that its UK-headquartered subsidiary, Foster Wheeler Energy has been awarded an engineering and materials supply contract by Samsung Engineering ("Samsung") for two gas turbine exhaust waste heat recovery units for PTT Public (PTT) ethane separation plant at Map Ta Phut Industrial Complex in Thailand.
Samsung is PTT's engineering, procurement, construction and pre-commissioning contractor for the ethane separation plant. The Foster Wheeler contract value for this project was not disclosed and will be included in the company's first-quarter 2008 bookings.
"Foster Wheeler has designed and supplied some of the world's more technically advanced waste heat recovery units," said Michael J. Beaumont, chairman and chief executive officer, Foster Wheeler Energy. "This award reflects our ability to deliver a cost-effective waste heat recovery solution incorporating selective catalytic NO(x) reduction, to meet Thailand's stringent emissions standards."
Endesa will offer Rock in Rio-Madrid a free mobility service with green vehicles
Endesa will offer concert-goers a fleet of vehicles consisting of electric cars and scooters and the event’s production staff will be offered bicycles. Endesa will support “Por un mundo mejor” (For a better world), the social project for the festival, which is aimed at raising awareness of climate change and its consequences.
The Company is responsible for providing “The Clean Energy of Rock” and will offer a mobility service within the concert venue consisting of a fleet of non-polluting vehicles. Along with three exchange stations for green vehicles, set up at different points in the venue, it will also sponsor a fleet of eco vehicles for concert-goers consisting of electric cars and scooters and bicycles for event production staff. People will be able to use these green vehicles to move around the 200,000 m2 concert venue free of charge.
EDP to buy more wind turbines from Suzlon
Portuguese power company EDP's U.S. subsidiary Horizon Wind Energy has placed a 200 megawatt contract with Indian wind turbine maker Suzlon Energy. The contract, at a time when turbines are in short supply, makes it more likely Horizon will meet its planned increase in production to 2,000 MW from 1,300 MW now.
Analysts say great global demand for wind turbines poses potential risks to energy companies as they seek to boost output at alternative energy projects. Suzlon has previously agreed to deliver to Horizon an order of 200 MW of capacity in 2008 and 200 MW in 2009. EDP did not disclose financial details of the latest order.
Alfasolar and Signet Solar sign a long term supply contract
Alfasolar and Signet Solar announced today that the two companies have signed a framework agreement for the supply of thin film modules with a total output of 24 MWp till 2011. The thin film modules supplied by Signet Solar will be installed in large solar projects developed and operated by Alfasolar.
“Alfasolar is a leader in the solar sector and we look forward to partnering and growing with them over the long term,” explained Gunter Ziegenbalg, Managing Director of Signet Solar. “Alfasolar is one of the first companies to include our modules in their product portfolio, an acknowledgment of the lower cost of thin film modules for solar farms and the progress made by Signet Solar in executing its R&D and manufacturing strategy.”
For Alfasolar, which has extensive experience in deploying solar PV projects, this supply contract is an important step in developing reliable and affordable solar farms.
Galp buys ExxonMobil fuels and lubricants businesses in Spain and Portugal
Galp Energia and ExxonMobil Mediterranea announced that an agreement has been signed for the sale of shares of Esso Espanola (Esso Spain) and ExxonMobil Portugal Holdings BV, owner of Esso Portuguesa LDA (Esso Portugal) to Galp Energia.
The transaction represents a petroleum product sales volume of around one million tons per year and includes Exxon Mobil’s retail station network in the two countries, currently totalling 130 service stations, and its industrial, wholesale, LPG and aviation fuels businesses.
Additionally, the majority of the lubricants businesses conducted in these countries by ExxonMobil Petroleum & Chemical, BVBA, will be transferred to Galp. The sale does not include Exxon Mobil’s asphalt business in Spain, marine and aviation lubricants, base stocks, private labelled lubricants, waxes and white oils.
This agreement also has no impact on Exxon Mobil’s Chemical business in both countries. On completion, as this is a sale of shares, all contractual and commercial terms of the companies, as well as existing employment contracts, will remain valid and the business will continue under new ownership. The transaction remains subject to approval of the relevant authorities.
Eufer incorporates in its society Energías Especiales de Extremadura two local associates
Eufer, (Enel Unión Fenosa Renovables) incorporates in its society Energías Especiales de Extremadura (Special Energies of Extremadura) two local associates. The Foundation Maimona and the olive and oil cooperative Acenorca. Both will take part in all the projects that the company promotes in the Extremaduran Community (Spain).
Presidents of the respective companies: Cipriano Tinoco of the Foundation Maimona, Casto Prieto, president of Acenorca and the general manager of Eufer, Maurizio Bezzeccheri, have signed an agreement in Plasencia, for which the Extremaduran entities acquire 3.33 % and 8.33 % respectively of the capital of Energías Especiales de Extremadura.
Currently Eufer, which focuses investments in renewable energies of Enel and Union Fenosa in Spain and Portugal, has in process of administrative authorization, several projects in Extremadura. A biomass plant in Calzadilla, a thermo solar plant in Guijo de Coria (both in Cáceres, Spain) and two photovoltaic solar power plants in Badajoz (Spain). All these projects would generate more than 105 MW; create more than 100 direct jobs. Save atmosphere emissions of 290.000 tons of CO2 and would generate electricity for nearly 80.000 families in the Community. In addition, Eufer has presented a wind plan for more than 500 MW in the Community.
